MOVElab Members take on NYC
In April, three members of MOVElab along with Dr. Benjamin Heddy had the opportunity to attend the 2018 Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association and the NCIC National Conference. Attendance at national conferences is a key part of graduate student experiences. Conference attendance offers opportunities to network with potential employers and collaborators, professional development, and chances to connect with the greater research community (Gardner & Barnes, 2007).
MOVElab members Alexandra Stroukoff, John Chancey, and Jacquelyn Goldman traveled to AERA and NCIC to present their own research and got the chance to connect with many other researchers in educational psychology like Dr. Reinhard Pekrun. “I came back completely revitalized as a scholar and educator,” John said, “It’s hard not to be motivated after being surrounded by such bright minds!” The size and scope of AERA meant that there was always a pertinent session to go to as well as opportunities to explore different ideas and perspectives. “I’m excited for Toronto next year,” said Alexandra, “Especially now that I know that I’ll need a few recovery days with lots of sleep afterwards!”
